Mission Santa Barbara

Big day today with a drive from Arroyo Grande [Arroyo-Grande-travel-guide-10191] to LAX then fly to London. We had enough time to stop at the Mission at Santa Barbara [Santa-Barbara-travel-guide-14304]. While the mission was founded in 1786 the existing building was only finished in 1820. An earthquake damaged the building considerably and what we see now is largely the result of the restoration completed in 1927.

Coucours d'Elegance

The Pebble Beach [Pebble-Beach-travel-guide-13695] Concours d'Elegance (classic carshow) didn't interest me and I didn't want to pay an exorbitant sum to see more cars. So I got dropped off in Monterey [Monterey-travel-guide-13168] to spend the day there.

No photos of Monterey as the camera went to Pebble Beach without me (with the others in our group). So here are some more photos of cars ... staged on their famous golf course.

Spent the night in Arroyo Grande [Arroyo-Grande-travel-guide-10191] to set us up for a shorter drive down to Los Angeles [Los-Angeles-travel-guide-12789] tomorrow, for our flight to London. The drive down from Pebble Beach to Arroyo Grande was a nightmare ... due to forest fires the traffic came to a standstill for about two hours en route.

Excursion to Carmel & Pebble Beach

large_5550_11888106854710.jpgOn the way to Carmel, at a no-lifers event at San Martin County Park.
Off to Carmel today ... but we (maybe me being the exception) were distracted by a sign saying there was a car show at San Martin County Park.

So it was a detour to that park then ... there was a village type car expo with some very well restored vehicles but some rather modified beyond recognition. Hhmmm ... one could say "what no lifers" ... or "whatever floats your boat".

Carmel when we got there eventually in a famished state was beautiful ... mansions of the wealthy ... nice boutiques, galleries, restaurants etc all housed in quaint old buildings ... but with the car events in nearby Pebble Beach, the place was packed with beautiful people and their expensive cars.

From Carmel, we dropped into Pebble Beach. This was the free day ... so I looked at more cars than my heart could desire ... for FREE ... while the others had to pay to see more of the same tomorrow!!

Mexican in Morgan Hill

View 2007 California & France on alexchan's travel map.

Arrived into San Francisco [San-Francisco-travel-guide-14243] from Auckland after an overnight flight. Even though we didn't have tonnes of time, we did a drive around of San Fran to give our first time visitor a look at the Golden Gate bridge.

Headed down to Morgan Hill [Morgan-Hill-travel-guide-13199] where we'd be based for two nights ... due to major motoring events, accommodation in the Monterey [Monterey-travel-guide-13168] area were rather pricey. This was the best we could do at reasonable cost without being too far from Monterey and Pebble Beach.
